Bodywork
Body-Based Healing for Trauma, Awareness and Nervous System Regulation
Somatic bodywork designed to help process and release trauma, improve body awareness, and regulate the nervous system.
Our Approach
We recognize that trauma and stress are often held within the body, not just the mind. Bodywork can help clients develop greater awareness, and connection within themselves as part of the healing process.
Sessions may include gentle body awareness practices, grounding techniques, breathwork, and hands-on therapeutic support tailored to the client’s comfort and goals.
Who is bodywork for?
Bodywork may be helpful for individuals experiencing the effects of stress, trauma, anxiety, or nervous system dysregulation, or those with a muscular injury. It is also for those simply looking for an hour of relaxation and pampering. It supports healing by helping clients reconnect with their bodies, increase body awareness, and develop a greater sense of safety and grounding.
Meet Your Provider
Becky Phelan, Licensed Massage Therapist, approaches her work holistically, taking into consideration not only the condition of her client’s body but also of their mind and spirit. She believes that the interplay between these various aspects can reveal the whole person’s profound and innate wisdom and capacity for healing. Through hands-on manual therapy, she helps clients find a sense of ease, safety, and belonging within their own bodies, and with their families, communities, and in the world.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
The term somatic means “relating to the body, especially as distinct from the mind”. In practice however, it is impossible to separate our bodies from our minds. At The Well, we provide bodywork with a focus on the mind-body connection and the nervous system, rather than primarily targeting muscle tension. With the support of a trained practitioner, clients can practice deeply relaxing and coming home to their bodies in a safe environment.
Over time, this practice begins to alter the client’s relationship to their body and the interactions between body, mind, and spirit, ultimately fostering more complete integration of parts that once felt separate but actually make up a whole person. Somatic bodywork is especially helpful for people who are working with a psychotherapist or life coach, making changes in their mental and emotional life, and who would benefit from receiving support as they begin to embody these changes and implement them into daily life.

Bodywork primarily uses safe touch as a means of supporting the body in relaxation and nervous system regulation. However, each session is tailored to the individual client on that day, and touch is optional if the client prefers. Before each appointment, safe, comfortable body areas will be determined, and those will be the only areas to receive touch. Clients may also choose to focus on breathing, meditation, or grounding practices if touch is uncomfortable or overwhelming.
