Maternal Mental Health Walk

Saturday, June 17th - Plymouth, MA

At The Well, we are committed to instilling hope and facilitating healing for everyone who walks through our doors. Please join us on Saturday, June 17th in Plymouth as we join forces with the March of Dimes to support local moms and raise awareness in Southeastern, MA. This is an event for the entire family--children and dads are welcome!

Did you know that depression and anxiety impacts 1 in 5 pregnant and postpartum women? Maternal mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and psychosis, are real illnesses, and when left untreated, can cause devastating negative consequences for the woman, her baby, her family and society.

These illnesses may be caused by a combination of biological, psychological and social stressors and exacerbated or worsened by risk factors such as limited social support, premature birth, and teenage pregnancy. Maternal anxiety and depression are the most common complications of childbirth, yet they are not commonly screened for or treated.

One of our therapists, Tonia A. Zarrella, LMHC , experienced postpartum depression after both of her pregnancies. She felt called to use her personal experience and clinical training to help other women.   A member of Postpartum Support International and 2020 Mom, Tonia is passionate about supporting women as well as eliminating the stigma and myths associated with maternal mental health disorders.
